Verse 9 is found in chapter 6 of 2 Kings. The king of Syria attempts to ambush the army of Israel, but Elisha repeatedly tells the king of Israel where the attacks will occur. When the Syrian king suspects internal betrayal, he discovers that the prophet knows even words spoken in secret. The scene presents the prophetic word as a form of knowledge beyond the strategic capacity of rulers. The account does not simply glorify Elisha’s intelligence: it shows that the God of Israel can reveal what military powers consider hidden.
