By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Verse 9 is found in chapter 35 of Job. Elihu observes that the oppressed may cry out without recognizing the God who rules over them and maintains that God listens according to his wisdom. He accuses Job of speaking from vanity. The passage continues defending God’s apparent silence as a matter of human perception rather than evidence of divine indifference.

Man schreit, daß viel Gewalt geschieht, und ruft über den Arm der Großen;
On crie contre la multitude des oppresseurs, On se plaint de la violence d'un grand nombre;
Gli oppressati gridano per la grandezza dell’oppressione, E dànno alte strida per la violenza de’ grandi;
