Verse 12 is found in chapter 51 of Psalms. Psalm 51 is a penitential prayer centered on confession of sin and the need for inner renewal. The psalmist does not attempt to justify himself through external circumstances, but acknowledges his guilt before God and asks for cleansing, a pure heart, and a steadfast spirit. Inner restoration has a communal dimension: one who again experiences salvation can teach others. The conclusion connects individual restoration with the well-being of Zion and with sacrifices offered rightly.
