For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

Verse 26 is found in chapter 14 of 2 Kings. Jeroboam II reigns during a period of expansion and territorial recovery for Israel. The narrator attributes the restoration of the borders to the word announced by Jonah son of Amittai, showing that political events are interpreted from the prophetic perspective. Yet prosperity coexists with the continuation of Jeroboam’s sin. The section ends with the king’s death and the transition to Zechariah. The contrast between national success and spiritual failure prepares one of the great themes of the following chapters: a kingdom can experience political recovery while structurally approaching its downfall.

Por cuanto Jehová miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había guardado ni desamparado, ni quien diese ayuda a Israel;
